Elephants are huge animals. They mostly live in Africa and some elephants live in Asia. Their hard skin is of grey colour. Elephants have proboscis, used to grab their food, drink, or grab other objects. Another outstanding characteristic of an elephant is their two tusks, used to move objects, fight other elephants to win a territory, and to dig in the floor. Elephants are an endangered species, because people hunt them for their tusks to sell on the market.

When elephants mate, the male and female might rub their tusks against each other. Sometimes, the female runs away from the male, and it might take some time before they actually start the mating. After a female elephant has brought a young to life, they make sure that the young is protected and not harmed from anything that could harm them. When the herd is on the move, the young elephants follow their mother. The female elephant usually keeps the young between her tusks to ensure its safety.

In zoos, the workers try to mate elephants to increase the amount of elephants in the world. Because elephants keep getting hunted, this is very necessary to prevent the extinction of this large animal.
